Winter may be what people think of when they think of Hakuba and Nagano, but all four seasons have their own charms in Japan, and Hakuba is no exception. The fresh green emerging in spring, capped with the glorious explosion of cherry blossoms at the end of April. Summer brings hot but comfortable days ideal for getting by the water of some of the lakes and rivers of the area. Autumn is the favourite of many, as the summer heat slowly ebbs away, time slows down a bit, and the leaves slowly begin turning colour, making their trek down from the mountains to the lower elevations in the valley.
